Overall Purpose
The Board of Trustees are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction
of the charity, developing the organisation's aims, objectives and goals in accordance with
the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law,
company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
To ensure that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document, undertaking such
duties and continually striving for best practice in governance that adds to public confidence and trust in the charity.
To determine the overall direction and development of the charity through good governance and clear strategic planning.
To ensure the organisation uses its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects: the charity must not spend
money on activities which are not included in its own objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those
activities are.
Main duties
To contribute actively to the board of trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation,
setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
To safeguard and promote the good name and values of the organisation in order for it to grow and maintain its
relevance to society.
To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
To ensure the financial stability of the organisation.
To protect and manage the property of the charity and to ensure the proper investment of the charity's funds
Acting in the best interest of the charity, beneficiaries and future beneficiaries at all times.
Interviewing, appointing and monitoring the work and activities of any senior paid staff.
Acting as a counter-signatory on charity cheques and any applications for funds.
To maintain absolute confidentiality about all sensitive/confidential information received
in the course of trustee's responsibilities to the charity.
Accountable to:
As the board are responsible and liable for the governance and functioning of the charity,
they are accountable in varying degrees to a variety of stakeholders, including: service users, members,
funders, the Charity Commission, and Companies House. Close attention must be given to the governing
document to ascertain the type of organisational structure and the range of interested parties.

Secretary to the Board of Trustees

We are looking for a Secretary to the Board of Trustees to take and distribute minutes and ensure that the
administration of the Board is in accordance with Charity Commission requirements.
The ideal person will be a competent minute-taker who is organised and has administrative skills.
The Board of Trustees meets between 4-6 times a year and this voluntary post offers a genuinely rewarding experience
and the ability to make a significant contribution to the community of Bracknell Forest.

Bracknell Forest Voluntary Car Scheme is looking for Volunteer Organisers five mornings a week.
The Car Scheme has been has been registered as a charity and operating across Bracknell Forest
since 1975, transporting hundreds of local people to medical appointments. This service enables
anyone in the Bracknell Forest area to be picked up from their homes and dropped to hospitals,
doctor appointments and all medical requirements within the Bracknell Forest area. Volunteer
drivers do the driving and transporting, but a new dedicated volunteer is now required to answer
the phones at Coopers Hill Community Centre, the base of the organisation, to coordinate the scheme.
The Volunteer Coordinator will be required to answer phones, communicate clearly and allocate 'jobs'
to drivers. If you feel you can help this invaluable organisation by volunteering for a morning a
week (preferably 5 mornings a week!) then please contact John Woods on 01344 426320.
This is a great opportunity for someone that finds they have some time on their hands, is organised
and professional and wants to get involved with and be a bigger part of the local community.
