Community Navigators - Volunteering
Interested in becoming a Community Navigator Volunteer?
The Community Navigators project is delivered by local volunteers so we need volunteers from across the Wokingham Borough and surrounding areas to come and join the Navigator team.
As a Community Navigator you will be part of a team of volunteers linked to GP surgeries and community venues, working with individuals to identify their support needs and signpost them to appropriate sources of social support in their communities across the Wokingham Borough.
You will give information to the individuals but this isn't an advice service and you will not be acting as a counsellor, support worker or befriender.
The Navigator project uses technology to enable you to complete searches with the people using the service to find the right information. You will receive training on how to use the equipment as well being trained in areas including confidentiality, barriers, lone working, scenarios and safeguarding.
How much time do I need to give?
This depends. We are looking for volunteers to give around 6-8 hours a week but this is flexible.
All Volunteers working within this project will be responsible to the Community Navigator co-ordinator.
There are monthly Navigator team meetings that we encourage volunteers to attend as they give an opportunity to offer feedback on the project, meet other Navigators, share knowledge and receive further training or information about the different services and charities working in the area.

You will be interviewed to ensure this is the right volunteering role for you and following this we will complete two reference checks as well as a DBS check.
